  2. Explore client history of reliance on alcohol, drugs or other substances/ behaviors to change the way they think and feel
  3. Screening for other present addictions 
  4. Learn intervention tools to re-direct client toward therapeutic progress
  5. Increase knowledge of available community resources
  6.  Remaining accountable as clinicians

Speaker: Julie Boswell, LMFT

Julie Boswell is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in Northern California who works in private practice with offices in Redding and Chico. She’s a Clinical Supervisor and is on the backside of completing CAMFT’s Certified Supervisor Program.  Julie served on the Board of the Redding Regional Chapter of CAMFT as President Elect (2017-2018) and is in her last year as President (2019-2020).    

One of Julie’s specializations in private practice is working with clean and sober  adults (individual, couples and families) on their mental and emotional well-being as they maintain their physical recovery.  As client’s process and understand the genetic influence of alcoholism and/or addiction, and address learned codependent patterns of thoughts, communication and coping skills - they learn to build an effective emotional vocabulary and establish healthy boundaries that profoundly improve all relationships.  Additionally, Julie has conducted alcohol and substance abuse interventions statewide for over a decade; and works with first responders providing psychotherapy, as well as clinical debriefings, trainings and psycho-education on the impact of alcoholism and addiction in their personal lives and professional community.     

With over 30 years of professional experience, Julie has also served the addicted population in a variety of settings including hospitals, schools, inpatient treatment center, adolescent crisis shelter, Child Protective Services, and facilitated Intense Outpatient Programs (IOP) for women, and pre-sentencing/post-prison release counseling at an outpatient facility.     

Julie’s academic background includes an AA in Psychology (1987), BA in Child Development with Child Mental Health Specialist emphasis (1990), and an MS in Marriage and Family Therapy (1994).  Post-academia, Julie completed training as a Recovery Coach (2007), and is preparing to be trained and certified in Brainspotting.  Julie blends a client-centered, solution-focused approach to psychotherapy influenced by psychoanalysis, Gestalt, and DBT.  Julie and her husband are die-hard SF Giants fans, living thru their cardboard cut-out’s experience at Oracle Park this shortened COVID-affected baseball season.
